Skip bins for homes, renovations and trade jobs across Melbourne’s east

Eastern Skip Hire delivers skip bins to homes, renovators and tradies across Melbourne’s eastern and outer-eastern suburbs: Ringwood, Croydon, Box Hill, Doncaster, Glen Waverley, Boronia, Ferntree Gully, Rowville, Bayswater, Lilydale and Mooroolbark, and up into the Dandenong Ranges. We drop off mini skips for a bathroom or a shed, medium skips for a garage or house clean-out, bigger skips for renovations, and small heavy-duty skips for soil, concrete and bricks.

Choose the size and the waste type, tell us where it’s going and for how long, and send the request. The things that change a skip’s price are the size, what goes in it, its weight and how long you keep it, and whether it sits on your driveway or on the street, where most councils in the east want a permit first.

Which skip do you need?

Pick your job to see the size we’d usually suggest, how big it really is, and what can go in it.

How much does skip bin hire cost in Melbourne’s east?

Your price comes once we know the size, the waste and where the skip is going. As a guide, here’s what three skip companies in the east publish. Each column names who publishes it, and none of them is our price.

Published skip prices in the east: mixed loads

Skip sizeLight mixed load (weight limit), Yarra Valley Skip BinsGeneral waste, ASAP Bin Hire”From” price, Boss Bin Hire
2 m³$425 (0.6 t)$290$340 (2.5 m³)
3 m³$495 (0.8 t)$390$395
4 m³$595 (1.0 t)$470$495
6 m³$765 (1.2 t)$620$625
8 m³$925 (1.5 t)$790$740
10 m³$1,085 (1.6 t)$980$850
12 m³$1,425 (1.7 t)$1,050$995

Each column is one company’s published price, not ours, and they aren’t directly comparable: Yarra Valley Skip Bins (Dixons Creek) prices “light” mixed loads with the weight limit shown and a standard 3-day hire; ASAP Bin Hire (Kilsyth) prices “general waste” from the main table on its Bayswater page (the same page shows a second, slightly higher price guide); Boss Bin Hire (Manningham) publishes “from” prices without a waste type or weight limit, and its smallest skip is 2.5 m³. None of the three states whether GST is included. Council permits are extra. Checked 1 October 2026.

Published prices: soil, concrete and bricks

Skip size100% concrete, dry dirt, brick or green, Yarra Valley Skip BinsClean fill (100% soil, bricks or concrete), ASAP Bin Hire
2 m³$415$280
3 m³$465$370
4 m³$495$450
6 m³$625$600
8 m³$735$750

Single-material skips: one material only, filled level with the top edge. Yarra Valley Skip Bins’ price applies to 100% concrete, 100% dry dirt, 100% brick or rubble, or 100% green waste or timber, and it doesn’t offer these loads in 10 m³ or larger skips; mixed heavy loads cost more and carry a weight limit (its “heavy” price for 4 m³ is $725, up to 1.3 t). ASAP Bin Hire’s clean fill means 100% clean soil, 100% bricks or 100% concrete, with no 10 m³ or larger option published. GST not stated by either. Checked 1 October 2026.

Driveway or street? Each council has its own rules

A skip that fits wholly on your driveway needs no permit anywhere in the east. On the road or nature strip, every council wants a permit, the skip company applies for it, and the rules and fees differ from one council to the next. When your skip has to go on the street, we arrange the permit.

  • Road or nature strip: permit

    Maroondah

A permit is needed for a skip on council land, including the nature strip and road. The bin hire company applies, and must be accredited with council.

    Fee: $118 for 1 to 3 days, $188.50 for 4 to 8 days, $253 for 9 to 14 days, per bin (2026–27)

  • Skip company applies, not you

    Knox

Knox says residents and property owners do not need to apply: only the skip provider can. A placed skip can be at most 7.5 m long, 2.5 m wide and 1.5 m high.

Fee: $196 per placement for a one-off permit (up to 7 days, at least 14 days’ notice), or $58 per placement for accredited providers on a $563 annual permit

  • Never on the nature strip

    Whitehorse

Whitehorse says a skip must not be placed on the nature strip or grass reserve. The skip contractor applies, at least 48 business hours ahead.

Fee: $125.00 for 5 days, plus $51 per bay per day in a metered bay

  • No skips on arterial roads

    Manningham

Only the skip supplier can apply. Skips aren’t allowed on arterial roads, and a skip on the nature strip or footpath needs prior approval and an asset protection permit.

Fee: $160 for a temporary permit (up to 7 days), or $935 for an annual permit

  • Highest fee in the east

    Monash

An accredited supplier applies at least 2 days ahead. Skips aren’t allowed on arterial roads.

Fee: $327.60 on local roads (1 week max.), or $331.80 at activity and shopping centres (2 hours, 7am to 9am) (2026–27)

  • Driveway first, if it’s safe

    Yarra Ranges

Council will not approve a road permit where the skip can be placed safely on private property. A registered skip company applies.

Fee: $74.00 residential (up to 7 days), $150.00 building site (up to 3 months), $500.00 commercial (3 to 12 months), including GST

Mini skip hire, Dandenong Ranges: a teal mini skip at the top of a steep, narrow driveway among mountain ash and tree ferns

Steep driveways, narrow roads and the Dandenongs

Yarra Ranges Council describes its own area as having “unmade roads and steep areas that can be difficult for trucks to access”. By our calculation from the state’s planning maps, about 98% of the shire is a designated bushfire prone area. A skip delivery in Belgrave, Upwey or Mount Evelyn needs more planning than one in Box Hill, so tell us about the driveway.

  • Slope and surface. Say if the driveway is steep, gravel or unsealed, or gets slippery after rain.
  • Width and height. Yarra Valley Skip Bins, for one, asks for a driveway 3 metres wide with 3.5 metres of overhead clearance.
  • Overhanging branches and wires. They decide where the truck can lift the skip off.
  • Mini skips. Where a full-size truck can’t reach, a mini skip often can.

Skip bin hire across Melbourne’s eastern suburbs

We deliver skips across six council areas, from the established streets of Whitehorse and Monash out to the valley towns and hills of the Yarra Ranges.

Melbourne’s eastern suburbs around Ringwood, from Box Hill to Lilydale and the Dandenong Ranges.

How to book a skip without surprises

The same six things, whether it’s a mini skip for a bathroom or a big one for a whole-house clear-out.

  1. Size by weight, too

Heavy waste goes in a smaller skip. See the size guide and its weight limits.

  2. The whole price first

Ask what the hire period covers, the weight limit and the charge for going over it, before delivery.

  3. Driveway or permit

On the driveway, no permit. On the street, the skip company applies; check your council’s rules.

  4. Keep out what can’t go in

Asbestos, chemicals, paint, gas bottles, batteries and e-waste. See the full list.

  5. Protect the driveway

Ask for timber boards under the skip if you’re worried about the concrete or pavers.

  6. Ask where it goes

EPA Victoria says to make sure your skip company can give you a docket showing a lawful place took the waste.

Common questions about skip hire

How much does a skip bin cost in Melbourne’s east?

It depends on the size, what goes in it, its weight and how long you keep it. As a guide, Yarra Valley Skip Bins publishes $595 for a 4 m³ skip with a light mixed load up to 1.0 tonne, and ASAP Bin Hire publishes $470 for a 4 m³ skip of general waste. Skips of only soil, concrete or bricks are priced separately, and a council permit is extra if the skip goes on the road. See skip bin prices.

What size skip do I need?

Go by the job and the weight, not just the volume. A bathroom strip-out usually fits a 2 or 3 m³ mini skip, a garage or shed clean-out a 4 to 6 m³ skip, and a whole-house clear-out 8 m³ or more. Soil, concrete and bricks need a smaller skip, because they hit the weight limit long before the skip is full. Compare them on the skip sizes page, or choose Not sure in the form.

Do I need a council permit for a skip?

Not if it sits wholly on your driveway or property. Every council in the east needs a permit for a skip on the road or council land, and it’s the skip company that applies, not you. Fees vary widely: Yarra Ranges lists $74 for a residential skip for up to 7 days, and Monash $327.60 on local roads for up to a week. See council skip permits.

What can’t go in a skip?

Asbestos, chemicals, liquids, paint, gas bottles, batteries and food can’t go in a standard skip, and tyres and mattresses usually cost extra. Victoria says that since 2019 it has been illegal to put e-waste in household rubbish or landfill, so keep anything with a plug, battery or cord out of the skip. See what can go in a skip.

Can soil, concrete and bricks go in a skip?

Yes, in a heavy-waste skip filled level with the top edge and no higher. A skip of one material only (just soil, just concrete or just bricks) is often cheaper than a mixed heavy load: Yarra Valley Skip Bins publishes $495 for a 4 m³ skip of 100% concrete, dry dirt or brick, against $725 for a mixed heavy load up to 1.3 tonnes. See soil and concrete skips.

How long can I keep the skip?

Hire periods differ between companies, so we confirm yours with the price. Published standard hires in the east are mostly 3 or 4 days: Yarra Valley Skip Bins lists a standard 3-day hire, Suburban Skips 4 days, and M Tucker & Sons includes 3 days and charges $25.00 for each day beyond. Tell us how long you need it when you ask for a quote.

What happens if the skip is overweight or overfilled?

An overweight skip costs more: M Tucker & Sons, for one, publishes $40.00 per 100 kg over the limit, and Yarra Valley Skip Bins moves an overweight light load to its heavy price. An overfilled skip can’t be driven on the road, and M Tucker & Sons charges a $110.00 return fee if it can’t be transported. Fill it level with the top edge and keep heavy waste in a heavy-waste skip.

Can I use council hard rubbish instead?

For bulky household items, often yes. Every council in the east has a hard rubbish service, mostly two booked collections a year, and Yarra Ranges has one annual street collection between late January and the end of March. None of them take building rubble, soil, concrete, bricks or plaster, and the volumes are small, so a renovation or a big clear-out still needs a skip.

Where does the waste go?

To a transfer station or landfill authorised to take it. EPA Victoria says that if you hire a skip, it’s your responsibility to know the contractor is taking your waste to a place authorised to accept it, and that you can be fined for using a business that dumps it illegally. EPA also says to make sure they can provide a docket showing it was taken to a lawful place. Ask us for it.

Which areas do you cover?

Melbourne’s eastern and outer-eastern suburbs across Maroondah, Knox, Whitehorse, Manningham, Monash and the Yarra Ranges, including Ringwood, Croydon, Box Hill, Doncaster, Glen Waverley, Boronia, Ferntree Gully, Rowville, Bayswater, Lilydale, Mooroolbark, Kilsyth, Mitcham, Blackburn, Nunawading, Vermont and nearby suburbs.
